Until now your cloud translation allowance was granted once a week. From today it is granted once a day.
If a long Saturday session used it up, you used to wait until Monday. Now you wait until tonight.
What changes
- Your allowance refills at 00:00 UTC every night instead of every Monday.
- The free tier is up to eight hours of cloud translation a day.
- Data sharing still doubles the allowance if you have it turned on.
Why daily
A weekly window had an ugly failure mode. One long session early in the week could spend the whole allowance, and then Unitra simply did not work for that person for days. Sessions also cluster on evenings and weekends, so a Monday reset was out of phase with almost everyone. A day is a shorter penalty and a smaller thing to wait for.
Why we call it an experiment
Because we do not yet know what it costs us. An allowance that refills seven times a week is more generous than the one it replaces, and that is deliberate: we want to see what people do when the wall stops arriving mid week.
The window and the allowance are both runtime settings. They can change, including back to weekly. The current allowance is not a commitment to keep it here.
One caveat
00:00 UTC is not midnight where you live. The countdown in Settings shows your real time to reset.
If the meter says you have room but a translation comes back as a limit error, that is a bug. Tell us in Discord.
